Koh Photography is the new venture by British photographer, Tristan. Already firmly established in the UK as a top wedding photographer, he decided to go travelling and test the waters, to see if there was a market for his work in Thailand. He approached Aimée Creative in the middle of 2013 before he left and asked for a brand identity that would be professional, but reflect the chilled Thai island vibe (Koh means Island in Thai).
The project took several sketches and mock up’s to get the right feel. Right at the start Tristan took to a hand drawn typeface from one of the concepts presented, but we couldn’t quite hit the nail on the head with the right symbol. Eventually, inspired by a Thai meal and a design he had seen, he set the challenge to draw a flower design in the style of a wood block print. The hand drawn design was converted into a vector to enable the logo to be scaled up or down without loss of resolution. It was decided to keep the finished design natural and not overly neat, in order to keep the chilled beach feel he wanted.
Although the core market was weddings the brand was not to be too girlie. Blue skies, clear blue waters and sand yellows therefore became the natural inspiration for the brand colours.
> Facebook page and portfolio website built by client
Tristan decided to build his own WordPress website and Facebook page as he was already very familiar with both of these platforms. A photograph taken whilst in Thailand encompassed everything we were trying to express with the new branding and formed the perfect background for his new site!
If you’re planning a wedding in Thailand or Asia then I suggest you take a look at his website and portfolio.
